The method of issuing letters of request asking foreign tribunals to cause evidence to be taken by person specified by the Indian Court exists only under certain conventions. Such a person should normally be a Foreign Service Officer. The advantage is that the local authorities can compel the witness to present himself with documents, and to make depositions.
