It is essential that the Presiding Officer should control the examination-in-chief, cross-examination and re-examination of witnesses and try to check the tendency to prove and over-prove unessential allegations, so as to prevent much time being taken up in eliciting and recording unessential particulars to which no reference can usefully be made in argument.
