An application for return of a document produced or exhibited in a case may be made either to the trial Court, the lower appellate Court, or, if the matter was decided by the High Court, to the High Court. Such application may be oral. If the document is not in the custody of the Court to which the application is made, a receipt of the document should be obtained from the party concerned and along with the application, forwarded to the Court which has the custody of the document. That Court should return the document along with the application and retain the receipt after endorsing thereon the date of despatch of the document. This receipt should be filed in the appropriate file. If, for any reason, the document cannot be returned, the receipt and the application should be sent back to the Court concerned stating the reasons for not returning the document.
