Statutory text

A Mamlatdar trying a suit under Bombay Act II of 1906 may, if he sees sufficient cause, direct any document or back produced to be impounded and kept in the custody of an officer of the Court for such period and subject to such conditions as he thinks fit. Unless a document has been impounded by order of the Court the person producing it shall be entitled to its return after the expiry of 6 months from the ultimate decision in the case. The Court may, however, return it to the person who produced it at any time before the expiry of the period, if the person applying for its return delivers to the Court a certified copy of such document and undertakes to produce the original if required to do so.
