GPMCA 249 — Public streets to be lighted

Statutory text

(1) The Commissioner shall—

(a) take measures for lighting in a suitable manner the publicstreets, municipal gardens and open spaces and municipal markets and all buildings vesting in the Corporation;

(b) procure, erect and maintain such number of lamps, lamp-posts and other appurtenances as may be necessary for the said purpose; and (c) cause such lamps to be lighted by means of oil, gas, electricity or such other light as the Corporation shall from time to time determine.

(2) The Commissioner may place and maintain electric wires for the purpose of lighting such lamps under, over, along or across, and posts, poles, standards, stays, struts, brackets, and other contrivances for carrying, suspending or supporting lamps or electric wires in or upon, any immovable property without being liable to any claim for compensation thereant:

Provided that such wires, posts, poles, standards, stays, struts, brackets and other contrivances shall be so placed as to occasion the least practicable inconvenience or nuisance to any person.
