Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act, 1949
(1) The Transport committee shall at its first meeting which shall be held on the same day of its constitution appoint one of its member to be the Chairman. The term of the Chairman shall be two and a half years. (2) The Chairman shall be eligible for re-appointment. (3) Notwithstanding the provisions of sub-section (1) and (2) the Chairman shall Vacant office as soon as he ceases to be a member of the committee. (4) In the event of the office of Chairman falling vacant previous to the expiry of his term the Committee shall, as soon as conveniently may be after the occurrence of the vacancy, appoint one of its member to fill such vacancy and the Chairman so appointed shall hold office so long only as the person in whose place he is appointed would have held it if such vacancy had not occurred.
