Gujarat Police Act, 1951
(1) For the direction and supervision of the Police Force, the State Government shall appoint an Inspector General of Police who shall exercise such powers and perform such functions and duties and shall have such responsibilities and such authority as may be provided by or under this Act or orders made by the State Government. (2) (a) The State Government may appoint an Additional Inspector General and one or more Deputy Inspector General of Police. (b) The State Government may direct that any of the powers, functions, duties, and responsibilities and the authority of the Inspector General may be exercised, performed or discharged, as the case may be, by the Additional Inspector General or a Deputy Inspector General. (c) The State Government may also by a general or special order direct that the Additional Inspector General or Deputy Inspector General shall assist and aid the Inspector General in the performance, exercise and discharge of his powers, functions, duties, responsibilities and authority in such manner and to such extent as may be specified in the order.
