PENALTY FOR MAKING FALSE STATEMENT.--(1) If any person fails to furnish a declaration as required by section 9, or during the course of any proceedings under this Act makes a declaration or statement or furnishes any information which is false or which he knows or has reasons to believe t be false or which he does not believe to be true, he shall be punishable wit imprisonment which may extend to [two years], (Vide Act No. 17 of 1976) c with fine which may extend to [two thousand rupees], (Vide Act No. 40 of 1978) or with both. (2) If any person secures an allotment by furnishing information which is false or which he knows or has reason to believe to be false or which h does not believe to be true, he shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both. (3) No court shall take cognizance of an offence punishable under sui section (1) or sub-section (2) except on a complaint made by the Prescribed Authority".
