Any person who signs any statement, amending statement, notice or intimation under this Chapter containing any particular which he knows to be false or does not believe to be true, or containing particulars which he knows to be incomplete or does not believe to be complete, shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both. STATE AMENDMENT Maharashtra Amendment of section 70 of Act IX of 1932.—In section 70 of the principal Act, for the words “shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both.” The following shall be substituted, namely :— “shall, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both : Provided that in the absence of special and adequate reasons to the contrary to be mentioned in the judgement of the Court, the fine shall not be less than one thousand rupees.”. • [vide Maharashtra Act 29 of 1984, s. 15] Maharashtra Insertion of section 70A in Act IX of 1932.—After section 70 of the principal Act, the following section shall be inserted, namely :—
